Man killed in overnight shooting at Whitehaven apartments, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is dead after an overnight shooting at a Memphis apartment complex.

Memphis Fire officials confirmed a call about the shooting came in just after 11:30 p.m. from the 4100 block of Eastwind Drive at two locations.

MFD said there was a scene at both the Hillcrest Apartments and the Peppertree Apartments in Whitehaven.

Memphis police said they responded to a shooting at 4260 Eastwind Dr. just before 11 p.m, where the victim was found.

Preliminary information indicates he was shot while leaving an apartment.

Peppertree was recently declared a public nuisance and served an injunction.

Mayor Strickland said the city will be working with tenants to make sure that they are able to find affordable housing.

One woman who lives at the complex told FOX13 she sometimes fears for her life, and frequently hears “shooting or hollering and screaming.”
