SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — In light of the recent news about the first case of the coronavirus in Shelby County, county and Baptist Hospital health officials released steps to take if you think you have been exposed or have the coronavirus.

Those who believe they might have the coronavirus and are relatively young and healthy are asked to call their doctor. Officials said there is the possibility to stay quarantined in your home for 14 days, unless you need immediate medical attention.

This also helps to keep you from exposing anything to others.

If you do need immediate medical attention because of symptoms related to the coronavirus, call the hospital you plan to go to first, so they can prepare for your arrival to keep other patients and staff safe.

Also, if you chose to call 911, let them know right away that you believe you have the coronavirus for paramedics to be prepared.

Other ways you can prevent the coronavirus include washing your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds, do not touch your face, avoid close contact with those who are sick and have upper respiratory symptoms.

If you are coughing and sneezing, do both in a tissue.
