MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Martin Luther King day is right around the corner and thousands of people across the Bluff City will be coming together to remember the civil rights icon.

Below is a list of ways you can help commemorate and celebrate MLK Day.

The National Civil Rights Museum will have an all-day celebration event with free museum admission.

All guests receive free museum admission on King Day, thanks to FedEx.

Guests who donate canned goods to King Day Food Drive also receive $2 off one future museum visit in 2020. Donations benefit Mid-South Food Bank to help feed families in the Mid-South.

Guests who donate to the blood drive benefitting Vitalant (formerly Lifeblood) receive free King Day admission for four people, express entry to the museum, PLUS museum guest passes for up to four people to visit any day in 2020.

The fourth annual Martin Luther King Jr. Days of Service will run January 17 to 20, 2020.

Each day of service has its own theme, but projects do not have to fit the daily theme in order to happen that day.

Volunteers can register for the service project that best fits their schedule on the Volunteer United website.

MLK Days of Service has service opportunities across Fayette, Haywood, Lauderdale, Marshall, Shelby, and Tipton counties in Tennessee; DeSoto, Tate, and Tunica counties in Mississippi; and Crittenden County in Arkansas.

MLK Days of Service Daily Initiatives:

Thursday, January 16 – MLK Days of Service Kick-off Event

o Join our sponsors, community partners, and volunteers for a celebration of service! Benjamin Hooks Central Library will host the event from 5:30-7 p.m.

Friday, January 17 - Youth and Education Day

o Serve students and positively impact education in our community! Read to a classroom, host a field day, or work in an afterschool program.

Saturday, January 18 - Family and Friends Day

o Better your backyard with this special day of community volunteer service. Partner with family and friends to make a difference in your neighborhoods.

Sunday, January 19 - Service Sunday

o Join your church or community center to serve others on Sunday. Volunteer Memphis will partner with your group to create project for volunteers following your worship service.

Grizzlies vs. New Orleans Pelicans MLK Game

On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Monday, Jan. 18, the Grizzlies will host the 14th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Game, presented by FedEx, in a nationally-televised game on ESPN vs. the New Orleans Pelicans at 1:30 p.m.

The celebration game events will also include the 11th Annual MLK Jr. Symposium and three other events to remember, celebrate and act on the legacy left by Dr. King with this year’s honorees of the 11th Annual National Civil Rights Museum Sports Legacy Award, presented by FedEx. Associate day and game sponsors include Ashley Furniture, Mid-South Ford Dealers and Coors Light.
