‘I did what I had to do’: Mother accused of stabbing daughter, sister, investigated previously by DCS

MEMPHIS, TENN. — FOX13 has obtained a police report that reveals horrifying details the night a Memphis mother stabbed her own daughter and sister.

According to the police affidavit, MPD responded to the apartments off Coach Drive Friday night for a wounding call. When officers arrived they were told a 10-year-old girl, an 18-year-old teen and a 12-year-old boy were on the scene running from the apartment with blood everywhere.

FOX13 also learned that the Department of Children’s Services has been “previously involved” with Reed in the past.

The affidavit outlines that the suspect, Lawrencia Reed, stabbed the 10-year-old and the 18-year-old then tried to drown the 3 and 12-year-old boys.

Neighbors followed a blood trail into the apartments and kicked the door in. Once neighbors were inside the apartment, they saw the 3-year-old and Reed wet near a tub filled with water.

Once officers made it to the scene, they took Reed into custody.

Reed’s 10-year-old daughter was taken to the hospital where she later died. Her 18-year-old sister was also transported to the hospital where she remains in critical condition.

This is what Reed told officers on the scene about the stabbing:

“I told them to get into the kneeling position, my sons did but my daughter and sister didn’t and they had to go. So, I did what I had to do.”

Reed was taken to Jail East and is facing three counts of Criminal Attempt Felony and First Degree Murder. She has a court appearance Wednesday morning at 9 a.m.
