INTERSTATE SHOOTING: Man shot by passing car on I-240, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis police are investigating a shooting at Interstate 240 and Getwell Road.

Eastbound lanes of I-240 were shut down for a time while police gathered evidence but have since reopened.

According to police, someone fired at least one shot from a car and hit a man who was driving eastbound on I-240 Thursday afternoon.

The man was taken to Regional One Hospital in critical condition. MPD said his condition was upgraded and listed as stable a short time later.

Officers are looking for a black Chrysler 300 that was traveling east on I-240.

Officers said two cars passed the victim when a man with dreads fired from his vehicle.

According to the Memphis Police Department, there have been 49 shootings on Memphis interstates this year.

There were 83 interstate shootings in 2020 and 45 interstate shootings in 2019.
