Jonesboro hit hard by EF-3 tornado, NWS confirms

JONESBORO, Ark. — Jonesboro, Ark. sustained tremendous damage after a tornado swept through the area Saturday afternoon.

Sunday, The National Weather Service rated the tornado as an EF-3.

Winds were as high as 140 mph leaving 22 people injured and 2 hospitalized, according to Arkansas EMA.

Several vehicles were damaged and overturned, according to officials, as well as some buildings flattened in the process.

The tornado started in the southern area, traveled northeast and finished in State Rd. 49 north.

Jonesboro E-911 Director Jeff Presley told KAIT, the Mall at Turtle Creek received damage and authorities were doing search and rescue in the area.

The Craighead area also took a hard hit reporting that the Farmville substation electricity went out due to the storms.

Race St. and Caraway Rd. in Jonesboro were also affected by the tornado.
