COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. — Kroger announced the opening of the Collierville Associate Resource Center following the recent mass shooting at a local store.
The center, located at 752 W. Poplar Ave., will support the needs of associates, first responders, survivors and the community impacted by the shooting.
It’s a place Teresa Dickerson hopes will be utilized after the Kroger shooting, which took place on Sept. 23.
“If they are in need of counseling in regards to the tragedy that happened here, then we want to be a resource for them,” said Dickerson.
Dickerson says the center will serve the needs of work associates, survivors, and community members affected by the tragedy.
Counseling will be a resource people can use with the addition of a few other helpers.
Service dogs like Job will be provided to help anyone who walks through the doors of the center located AT 752 Poplar Ave. in Collierville.
Genie Swan with the Christ The King Lutheran Church, who coordinates Job, says she wanted to offer a hand any way she could.
“When we heard about the tragedy, we contacted Sandy of the Shelby County Crime Victim and Crisis Center and offered to be of help in any way,” said Swan.
Members of the community who shop at the grocery store regularly believe the center will be put to good use.
“I think the resource center would be a great thing to have because everybody needs somebody or something to fall back on,” said Collierville resident Kelsi Schrecker.
For Dickerson, it’s not only about the resource center being used. It’s about the healing that can take place to make Collierville strong once again.
“Really an opportunity for all of us to come together and be Collierville Strong,” said Dickerson.
According to a release from Kroger Delta Division, the center will be open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Kroger associates and customers can schedule an appointment to meet with counselors and other professionals for mental health and other services.
