Local 10-year-old girl starts frozen treat business

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A local 10-year-old is changing the frozen treats game.

Meet Artreanna Payne. She's the founder of Artreanna's Italian Ice which serves up delicious frozen desserts in a wide variety of flavors.

She started her company a year ago.

The young entrepreneur said it all started when another local business, Parker's Water Ice, visited the Boys and Girls Club.

“It was so good,” said Payne. “I asked my grandma if I could have my own Italian ice store. She called Mr. Parker. Mr. Parker helped us at the beginning and this is how.”

Artreanna's Italian Ice has taken off. Customer after customer raved about the delicious Italian ice.

“I ordered strawberry lemonade,” said Bryan Russell, customer. “The flavor appealed to me because it’s summertime. It’s hot. Strawberries, lemonade. Wonderful combination. It was a real good sweet smoothie.”

Payne’s grandma, Tabitha Tunstall, believed the sky was the limit.

I’m very proud of her,” said Tunstall. “She’s a sweet girl. Her teachers love her. She’s a great student. She’d just a wonderful all-around kid.”

Payne said this was only the beginning.

She’s already saving up for college.
