Man accused of killing Young Dolph punched at 201 Poplar, lawyer says

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One of the men accused of killing Young Dolph was punched while in jail at 201 Poplar.

Justin Johnson, aka Straight Drop, was punched last Friday, according to Johnson’s attorney.

According to his attorney, Juni Ganguli, Johnson was on the phone Friday when another inmate walked up and punched him and he did not attempt to strike back.

“Unfortunately, jail is a violent place and assaults are common,” Ganguli said. “Anytime a client you like is attacked, it’s unfortunate, but again that’s life in the jail.”

Ganguli said he doesn’t know what security protocols are in place to protect Johnson while in custody, but from his experience things come to a screeching halt when he visits his client.

“When he’s moved and when I come to see him, there’s no staff movement or inmate movement because of the high profile of this case,” Ganguli said.

Johnson was arrested in January after US Marshals caught up with him at a truck stop outside of Terre Haute, Indiana.

He is facing several charges including first-degree murder, criminal attempted first-degree murder, unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon, employ of a firearm with intent to commit a felony and theft of property $10,000-$60,000

According to a spokesperson with SCSO, there was an incident on Friday, March 18, that involved Johnson and another inmate. There have been no reported injuries and the incident is under investigation.
