MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is facing a murder charge after allegedly shooting his roommate at a local rooming house.
The shooting happened Jan. 17 at a rooming house in the 900 block of Pearce Street.
A man told Memphis police he found his roommate unresponsive, according to an affidavit.
Officers found the victim slumped over a chair with a gunshot wound to the upper left chest.
Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
The next day, another tenant at the rooming house told investigators he heard the victim arguing another man about car keys, according to the affidavit.
He said he heard a gunshot during the argument.
The man told police Drewshon Richardson said, “He wouldn’t give me the car keys so I killed him!,” records show.
The man said Richardson then called police.
Richardson’s mother told police she gave the victim keys to a 1994 Pontiac Fiero to make repairs.
According to the affidavit, Richardson’s mother said she told the victim not to give the keys to Richardson, and that she went to the rooming house and found the keys in Richardson’s room.
Richardson was arrested and taken to 201 Poplar.
He’s charged with Second-Degree Murder.
