Memphis, Tenn. — A 19-year-old Memphis man has been charged with four felonies after shooting at another man inside of a MATA bus, according to the Memphis Police Department.
MPD said that Christopher Jones had just gotten onto the MATA bus on Madison Ave. when another man hit him in the back of the head.
That’s when Jones ran to the back of the bus, pulled out a handgun and opened fire inside the bus with 4 people inside, according to a police affidavit.
The bullet shattered the MATA bus windshield, the police report said.
But, before he got off the bus, police said Jones dropped a maroon shirt with a Popeye’s Chicken logo on it.
Police obtained surveillance video from the bus to make a photo spread and took those photos to a Popeye’s Chicken on Union Ave. where an assistant manager identified the shooter as Jones, an employee.
MPD then matched a photo ID of Jones with the picture from the MATA bus.
Jones was arrested and charged with four counts of aggravated assault and one count of unlawful possession of a weapon.
