MEMPHIS, Tenn. — In their continuing effort to “Slow Down Memphis”, the Memphis Police Department arrested a man they said almost hit several pedestrians while driving recklessly downtown.

According to MPD, 28-year-old William Spears was swerving in and out of traffic lanes near Front St. and Monroe Ave. and even drove in oncoming traffic.

An officer attempted to stop Spears in his black Dodge Challenger, but he refused to stop, according to police.

Police said that Spears sped eastbound on Monroe Ave. and ran a red light at Monroe Ave. and BB King, almost hitting several people walking on the crosswalk.

Spears has been charged with a felony count of intentionally evading arrest, one misdemeanor charge of reckless driving and one misdemeanor charge of reckless endangerment.
