Man arrested for allegedly raping woman in vacant apartment, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One man is behind bars after he allegedly raped one victim less than a week ago.

Derrick Rice, 44, is behind bars after he force one woman to give him oral sex on Jan. 11, police said.

Rice met the victim while walking from the Citgo Gas Station in the 1700 block Winchester Rd.

The victim told police as she was walking with Rice, he asked her if she would like to get out of the rain, according to police.

The pair went into a vacant apartment on Cazassa Dr. and talked more.

Rice then asked the victim for sex, which she refused. She tried to leave the apartment, but rice grabbed her and forced her back into the apartment, the affidavit said.

Rice asked her again for sex.

The victim feared for her safety and gave forced oral sex to the suspect.

She refused to give more, which Rice began to beat the victim with a porcelain toilet top. She tried to fight back, but Rice continued to beat her, according to the affidavit.

The victim was able to get out of the apartment to get help before passing out.

She suffered two broken hands, a broken eye socket and received over 57 stitches to her face and head area, police said.

Three days later, the victim was shown a photo line-up, where she made positive identification of Rice as the person who assault her.

Rice was arrested Jan. 16 and charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated rape, according to court records.

He is due in court Tuesday.
