MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is behind bars after a December burglary and shooting that left a woman coming home to her boyfriend dead.
Jonathon Johnson, 26, was arrested Friday for numerous charges, one in which was first-degree murder in perpetration of aggravated burglary, according to the affidavit.
Memphis Police responded to the 2800 block of Arbor Valley Ln. on Dec. 12 for a burglary and man down.
Once they arrived, they found the victim, Antonio Tucker, lying in a hallway of an apartment with a gunshot wound, police said.
The girlfriend told FOX13, “He said one of his safe places was home. He said he didn’t want to go out because of the danger that people cause. Someone took that from him in his own home,"
Tucker was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators received tips that Johnson and Tucker were acquaintances and that Johnson was the responsible person for the burglary and shooting, according to police.
Officers arrested Johnson Friday for a burglary warrant, but Tucker’s father said he believes there are more suspects involved in the shooting.
Johnson was then brought to the Homicide Bureau for questioning and admitted to burglarizing Tucker’s apartment with Jamarcus Gholston, the night of the shooting, the affidavit said.
He has been charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance, aggravated assault, theft, two counts of aggravated burglary and first-degree murder, according to court records.
