Man arrested for murder, spits on cops during arrest, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man who shot another man to death at a Parkway Village grocery store spit on police when officers finally took him into custody, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).

MPD said 23-year-old Landon Quinton and another man approached two people outside of the Z Market on South Perkins Road on Sunday, January 22.

The man with Quinton pistol-whipped one of the victims, stealing his cash, cellphone and car keys, and Quinton shot his friend before the robbers ran off, MPD said.

The man who was shot died on the scene, according to police.

Officers said they soon found Quinton on Cottonwood, saw him toss a handgun into a yard and eventually took him into custody after a brief chase on foot.

When one of the officers arrested Quinton, MPD said he spit in that officer’s face.

When police brought Quinton to the station, another officer tried to speak with Quinton but the 23-year-old spit on that officer’s jacket, court records show.

Quinton was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, especially aggravated robbery, aggravated robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of aggravated assault, assault, resisting official detention and evading arrest.
