MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Early Monday morning, FOX13 crews went to Olive Branch for reports of a large police scene in a neighborhood.
While FOX13 was working to learn what happened, a man who said his name was Robert Phinzee came up to our crew and started talking to FOX13′s Shelia O’Connor about why there were so many officers at the home.
Phinzee said he and his wife signed divorce papers weeks ago and they were talking about if they could make their relationship work.
At some point during the conversation, the woman went and got a gun, according to the man. Phinzee said he and the woman got into a tussle over the gun. Then, the gun went off and hit the woman. He said she was alert and told him where her cell phone was, so he could call the police.
Phinzee went to go get the phone, and when he came back – she was gone. He said he grabbed the kids and put them in a car and left to find her.
While Phinzee was telling FOX13 his side of the story, police placed him into handcuffs and put him in the back of a squad car.
He was then taken to the police station and has been charged with attempted murder, police said.
The bond was set at $1,000,000.
