Man convicted in attempted murder of team leader at Whitehaven bakery

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A former bakery employee has been convicted of attempting to kill his supervisor in a workplace shooting at a Whitehaven distribution center.

The shooting happened in 2019 at Bimbo Bakeries on Fleetbrook, according to a release from the Shelby County DA’s office.

According to testimony, Marcus Davis, 40, got into an argument with his team leader at work.

The argument turned physical and Davis pulled a pistol from his waistband, firing several shots, the release said.

The shooting was captured on security video.

The 29-year-old team leader was shot in the chest and left arm, and was hospitalized in critical condition.

Davis fled before turning himself into police 12 days later, the release said.

A Criminal Court jury deliberated 30 minutes before convicting Davis of attempted first-degree murder and employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.

His sentencing is scheduling for Aug. 19, records show.
