Former Burger King employee convicted of shooting boss after getting fired

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man who shot and injured his own boss hours after being fired last year has been convicted of attempted first-degree murder.

Kevin D. Owens, 24, was convicted Wednesday and will be sentenced Oct. 26, according to a release from the Shelby County District Attorney’s office.

Owens was also convicted of employment of a firearm with intent to commit a dangerous felony.

On April 30, 2020, Owens confronted his boss at the victim’s apartment in Raleigh.

Owens had just been fired from his job at Burger King.

During an argument, Owens pulled a gun and shot the victim in the armpit, the behind, the hip and wrist, the release said.

Owens’ boss was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, but was able to identify Owens as the shooter.

Owens was on probation at the time for a 2016 robbery conviction, the release said.
