Man shot to death at Hickory Hill apartment identified

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A shooting at a Memphis apartment complex leaves one man dead. The Memphis Police Department (MPD) identified the victim as 27-year-old Michael Germany.

Police were dispatched to Cedar Run Apartments around 11 p.m. Tuesday night in the 5900 block of East Point Drive. Police said Germany was initially taken to Regional One Hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.

“Oh yea, it’s a shocker,” said Dana Rogan, a resident who lives nearby. “It just need to stop. The kids out here are trying to grow. It’s got to stop. It’s just got to take more than my voice.”

Residents responded after getting word of a deadly shooting. Neighbors told FOX13 that the Hickory Hill community is usually a safe area.

“It’s real peaceful and quiet, really nothing going on really,” one neighbor said.

Some neighbors asked to remain anonymous. One resident shared she heard two gunshots before police arrived to the scene.

“I heard some gunshots, and I went in the house because I don’t do violence,” she said.

FOX13 reached out to MPD to find out more about the suspect. The agency responded it had shared all available information at this time.

Although not much has been released about the victim or suspect, FOX13 learned that Germany, at one point, worked as a security guard. In a brief phone conversation with the 27-year-old’s former employer, All Secure LLC, the firm said Germany was terminated from the company about 2-weeks ago.

Meanwhile, neighbors said they were saddened to learn of the death and are staying alert at all times.

“You got to live cautious. You’ve got to look around and pay attention to your surroundings,” said one neighbor. “It’s crazy, but I just pray that all of it just ends.”
