Man indicted after shooting person who was taking out trash, DA says

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is indicted with second-degree murder for shooting a man who was taking out the trash, according to the District Attorney.

The incident happened on July 8, 2020, around 8:15 P.M. in the driveway of a home on the 5000 block of Yellowood Cove near Covington Pike and Stage Road.

Metavious Bishop is being held on a $250,000 bond.

Witnesses inside the house said they heard two gunshots outside after 24-year-old Ray C. Taylor had taken out the trash. They identified Bishop as the man who was standing over Taylor’s body with a gun, according to court documents.

Bishop’s girlfriend said he had called her earlier and said he would be coming by the house on Yellowood. She said she was inside the house when the shooting happened but identified Bishop’s phone and his brand of cigars that were left on top of her car which was by Taylor’s body, according to court documents.

Investigators searched Bishop’s girlfriend’s phone and viewed an unopened Snapchat on which Bishop described a previous incident in which Taylor removed his shirt and came after him and possibly some others, according to a release.

Taylor was pronounced dead on the scene.
