Man killed after domestic incident with ex-girlfriend, sheriff says

TIPTON COUNTY, Tenn. — The Tipton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly shooting.

The shooting happened early Sunday morning, just before 1 a.m. on Mason Malone Road.

According to TCSO, James Walter Smith Jr. was found shot in front of his ex-girlfriend’s home. Smith died on the scene.

Sheriff’s discovered that just a few hours earlier, around 10:40 p.m. Saturday night, Smith showed up to his ex-girlfriend’s job in Memphis, with a gun.

Smith argued with his ex-girlfriend before one of her coworkers stepped in. He eventually fled the scene.

Memphis Police was called and is investigating the incident as an aggravated assault/domestic violence incident.

The victim told TCSO that Smith confronted her at her home, resulting in the shooting.

An autopsy will be conducted at the Regional Forensic Center in Memphis.
