Man opens fire on clerk, customers after trying to rob store, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A gunman is on the run after running away from a store he tried to rob leaving a trail of bullets behind, according to the Memphis Police Department.

Police said the attempted robbery happened on Friday, April 8, when a man walked into Kirby Discount on Kirby Parkway.

The gunman tried to rob the store at gunpoint but was unsuccessful, police said.

When the robbery failed, according to police, the man ran off, firing five to six shots in the direction of the clerk and customers inside the businesses.

Luckily, nobody was reported injured in the gunfire.

MPD said the man is between 18 and 20 years old and about 170 pounds.
