Man pays off layaways for hundreds of customers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It is the season of giving and a local man is giving back to the community in a huge way.

Local philanthropist Avron B. Fogelman is embracing this season of giving once again by paying off layaway balances for more than 200 Burlington customers at the Eastgate Shopping Center.

He paid off items such as cold-weather essentials, kids’ apparel, and toys. Customers benefiting from the donation will be contacted by phone to coordinate their pick up.

This year marks the third time Fogelman has paid layaway balances at the Eastgate Burlington location. In 2016 and 2018, he covered layaway balances for hundreds of shoppers during the holidays, and in 2017 provided a special holiday gift in the form of a shopping spree to children of the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Memphis.

“Burlington is so grateful for Mr. Fogelman’s sincere generosity to our customers,” said Paul Mallett, regional vice president of Burlington. “His gift will undoubtedly bring joy, relief, and a heightened sense of gratitude to all impacted.”

Avron B. Fogelman is Chairman of Fogelman Properties, and is the former co-owner of the World Series Champion Kansas City Royals. He has been one of the most philanthropic citizens of Memphis, from investing in sports teams to providing college scholarships to underprivileged students.
