HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. — The death of a little girl in North Mississippi has a community grieving.
Three-year-old Janie Branch died after her family was involved in a car crash Saturday night in Grenada County.
Her father, Bruce Branch, is athletic director and assistant baseball coach at Marshall Academy in Holly Springs.
Friends of the Branch family told FOX13 3-year-old Janie was a part of almost everything at Marshall Academy.
”If it was a football game, a basketball game, she was right in the middle of it being a coach’s daughter,” Tony Banks said. “It’s not many kids here in school who probably didn’t hold her at one time or another.”
Banks is head of schools at Marshall Academy. He said 3-year-old Janie Branch was the school’s biggest little cheerleader.
The school has been in almost constant prayer for her family.
In her memory, the pitcher’s mound on the school’s baseball field has been covered in flowers and balloons.
”We had a vigil on Sunday afternoon in the gym for Janie,” Banks said. “Teachers met later that afternoon for a vigil of their own. This morning the whole student body met on the baseball field and told Janie stories and had a prayer for her.”
Supporters of Janie’s family have adorned the entrance to the school with pictures of the little girl.
”Infectious smile. Full of energy. She touched, at 3 years old she touched a lot of lives here,” Banks said.
