MAS participating in nationwide Empty the Shelters event

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Animal Services is participating in a nationwide event to Empty the Shelters and find forever homes for those furry friends.

In the event sponsored by the BISSELL Pet Foundation, Empty the Shelters will have reduced adoption fees of $25 or less at 200 participating shelters and rescues in 36 states May 5 through 9.

Memphis Animal Services is open for adoptions daily from 12 to 4 p.m. plus until 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Appointments are encouraged but not required, according to a release. Learn more on MAS’s website.

“This is an adoption event we always really look forward to because it is so beneficial,” said Alexis Pugh, Memphis Animal Services Director. “Pets get adopted, adopters get a great discount with so much included, and participating shelters receive donations from BISSELL Pet Foundation for each pet that is adopted.”

“The national Empty the Shelters event in May will be our largest yet, and as a small foundation, we are incredibly proud to see the growth of this program as we continue to expand its impact,” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation.

“Empty the Shelters not only helps our shelter partners free up space in their facilities, but it places pets in permanent homes. It’s a win-win for everyone involved…our partners, ETS adopters, and most importantly, the pets.”

BPF will also honor foster-to-adopt cases that start as fosters during May 5 through 9 and are finalized up to one week after the event, a release said.

Interested adopters are encouraged to visit for their local shelter’s participation guidelines and COVID hours.
