Memphis Fire Department responds to 3rd alarm fire at Kellogg’s Company

Memphis, Tenn. — The Memphis Fire Department responded to a third alarm fire on Sunday at Kellogg’s Company.

The alarm sounded at 2168 Frisco Avenue around 4:05 p.m.

MFD was present on the scene for over five hours to stop the fire.

The fire was brought under control at 9:10 p.m.

According to MFD, two firefighters suffered from heat exhaustion.

One was treated and released on the scene The second firefighter was taken in stable condition to Baptist East Hospital.

There were no civilian injuries.

The origin and cause of the fire was accidental, investigators said. A conveyor belt malfunctioned and ignited combustibles in a rice dryer machine.

The building did have a working sprinkler system.

The structure and equipment sustained smoke, fire and water damage.

Total damage estimates have not been determined at this time, MFD said.
