MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis in May to host volunteer expo for upcoming season.
The expo is to invite members of the community to help produce the city’s largest signature cultural events.
There are volunteers are needed in a variety of roles, and opportunities to serve at each of the festivals that include the Beale Street Music Festival and International Salute to Ghana, to the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest and the Great American River Run.
The committees in need of volunteers are international education, international programming, communications, artist transportation, barbecue administration, volunteer services, barbecue judging, artist hospitality, runners’ expo, water stations, runners’ hospitality and production.
“As one of the largest civic festivals in the United States, Memphis in May requires the assistance of hundreds of volunteers who share a passion for Memphis and enjoy this opportunity to present our culture to the world while being part of the biggest events Memphis hosts each year,” said James L. Holt, president and CEO of Memphis in May International Festival.
Volunteers can range from 18 to 90-years-old, which most have served at least 5-years all the way up to more than 20-years.
The Volunteer Expo is at the Memphis Botanic Gardens on Cherry Rd. from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Feb 20.
2020 Memphis in May International Festival dates include:
- Month-long Salute to Ghana from May 1 to 31
- Beale Street Music Festival from May 1 to 3
- World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest from May 13 to 16
- Great American River Run from May 23
Memphis in May is a nonprofit organization, which their programs contributed more than $4.6 million in direct local tax revenue and $149.1 million in economic impact in 2019.
