Memphis police asking for help solving cold case homicide

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis police are asking for help with a cold case homicide investigation.

The homicide, an apparent drive-by shooting, happened in 2018 in the 2700 block of Fizer in Orange Mound.

Police said the night of May 22, Vallen Conner was at a friend’s house on Fizer, just east of Lamar Avenue.

Conner was sitting in her car, parked outside the friend’s home while they talked, police said.

During the conversation, the friend saw a light brown or tan SUV, possibly a Chevrolet Trailblazer, parked five to six houses down.

Then, shots were fired as the SUV drove past the friend’s house.

Both Conner and her friend were shot, and Conner died from her injuries.

Memphis police said the friend was taken to Regional One, where she was treated and released.

Investigators discovered three suspects were inside the SUV, and at least two of them fired shots.
