Memphis woman arrested in Mississippi with 36 pounds of marijuana edibles

CLINTON, Miss. — A Memphis woman was arrested in Mississippi after officers found more than 30 pounds of marijuana candy edibles in her car.

According to a post on the Clinton Police Department’s Facebook page, officers stopped a white 2017 Dodge Challenger on Interstate 20 at Springridge Road just after midnight Tuesday for a traffic violation.

Officers said they found approximately 36 pounds of marijuana candy edibles as a result of the traffic stop.

The edibles were packaged to look almost identical to regular candy.

Officers arrested 31-year-old Monet Shields of Memphis, Tennessee.

Shields’ bond has not been set.

The Clinton Police Department said their investigation is ongoing and could lead to further arrests of participating criminals in the metro Jackson area.

Officers warned residents that some marijuana edibles are packaged to look like regular candy.

“We need to focus on educating parents, teachers, and children to the dangers of the potency of these products,” said Chief Ford Hayman. “Parents should be alert to the availability of these types of products and the potential that their children may be utilizing marijuana edibles.”
