Memphis Zoo welcomes new baby giraffe

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Zoo announced the arrival of its newest baby girl.

Giraffe Wendy gave birth Monday to a female calf they’ve named “Milele.”

“Milele” means “forever” in Swahili. The staff said they choose the mane because it feels like they’ve waited forever for her arrival.

After her first exam, the veterinary staff said Milele is very healthy and ready to meet the rest of her herd, including her father, Niklas, half-brother, Ja Raffe, and half-sister, Ali.
