Mississippi authorities investigating after body found with bag around head, rope around neck

MARSHALL COUNTY, Miss. — Investigators in Marshall County looking into a bizarre death there. They tell FOX13 News that they suspect foul play.

Last week, a badly decomposed body was found near the Fayette-Marshall County line. FOX13 found out that investigators think it could be the body of a man who went missing in September.

The body was found in a tent during a search of the woods. Investigators said the badly decomposed corpse had a plastic bag over its head and a rope around its neck.

The man’s hands were bound behind his back and tied to a belt loop. The body was in about four inches of water. Frederick Mackie lives nearby.

”I don’t know. It’s messed up the way that they found him and the way that everything went but I don’t know what is going on,” Mackie said.

Investigators said an autopsy is being performed on the body Monday. They said a man who cleans parking lots at a nearby gas station found the body.

DNA samples from family members of a man who worked at a nearby business and went missing months ago have also been sent to the crime lab. Investigators can’t be sure who it is until they get autopsy results back and see if the DNA matches.

Jasmine White lives just down the road.

”I mean it is kind of scary you know. It’s kind of scary. We are from this area and up here all the time. It’s kind of scary. Well, I am just praying for the family. It’s crazy.”

White said investigators said a person of interest is being interviewed in the case. They also believe they found the victim’s car on Faxxon Avenue in Memphis.
