MEMPHIS, Tenn. — MLGW community offices are reopening to customers Monday, the first time since closing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The company announced it would reopen four community office locations to walk-in customers beginning Oct. 3.
The Summer Avenue office will remain closed, officials said.
Downtown, Lamar, Whitehaven, and Millington locations are reopening.
For several years, the parking lot at the Lamar location sat empty. Monday morning, it was filled with customers who said they need to straighten out their utility bills.
One customer, Shateria Swalt, said it was hard getting to the location at 6 a.m.
“MLGW, they be taking so long,” she said. “Lines be long. Everything is so long. Even the process on the phone be long.”
Swalt said she called the company last week and patiently waited on the phone for hours to pay her bill, but she couldn’t get ahold of customer service.
She said she hopes the reopening of the offices can alleviate the hours-long waits.
“But if it don’t I’m going to be really mad,” she said.
The locations and hours are as follows:
• Downtown – 245 S. Main 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 6 p.m. Fridays
• Lamar – 2935 Lamar Ave. 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 6 p.m. Fridays
• Whitehaven – 1111 E. Shelby Dr. 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 6 p.m. Fridays
• Millington – 5141 Navy Rd. 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday
MLGW is also rolling out a new online appointment reservation system for those seeing a credit counselor.
The system will be like making an appointment at a doctor’s office and will offer flexibility convenient to customers’ schedules, MLGW said.
More details on the services will be provided at a later date.
For payments, customers can come inside one of the reopened offices without using the online appointment system.
