MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A pregnant woman said her boyfriend was killed because he owed five dollars.
Memphis police are investigating an overnight homicide in North Memphis.
Police say one man was killed in a shooting in the 800 block of Randle Street.
“I’m sad. I’m crying. I’m depressed, and I don’t know what to do,” said the victim’s girlfriend.
The young woman who is expecting a child in February is heartbroken.
She has to raise a child without a father because someone shot and killed him Monday morning off Randle Street.
She didn’t want to share her name or show her face because she is scared.
“I don’t know what to do at this point because it’s 50/50. You gotta be a team, can’t just be half a team, you gotta be the whole team,” said the victim’s girlfriend.
The woman believes her 18-year-old boyfriend was shot because he owed the suspect money.
She said he originally needed to pay ten dollars, but the man gave the suspect five dollars over the weekend.
He was still five dollars short.
“Why would you do this? Five dollars ain’t nothing,” said the victim’s girlfriend.
As Memphis police continue to search for the killer, the expecting mother is trying to figure out how she will manage raising a child as a single parent.
“I really don’t know what the situation is, what it’s about, but God has a plan for everything,” she said.
This shooting happened just three streets over from where a 7-year-old boy was shot and killed on the fourth of July.
Police said the shooting stemmed from an argument with another known man.
No arrests have been made.
