MPD officer dies after battling illness, police association says

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis police officer died Monday, the Memphis Police Association has confirmed.

Officer Jimmie A. Shindler, known as Alex, died after being treated for an illness at Baptist East Hospital.

Shindler was 35 years old and assigned to Mt. Moriah Station Bravo, the Association said in a Facebook post.

Shindler was an MPD officer over 12 years, beginning in 2009.

He leaves behind his wife, Beth, and two children.

Alex is remembered as a good friend, husband, father, and a dedicated police officer, the Association said.
