MPD searching for man who carjacked woman at Memphis Zoo

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A spokeswoman with the Memphis Zoo said they are looking into extra security measures after a woman was carjacked around 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

On Tuesday, FOX13 saw a Memphis Police squad car on campus.

Investigators said that woman was sitting in her car with the windows rolled down in the parking lot.

The man asked to use her cell phone and got away in her car.

An employee with the Memphis Zoo stated she was sitting in her car when a man asked for her phone.

The woman said when she refused, the man raised a rock over his head and threatened to beat her if she did not get out of the car.

The woman stated when she got out of her car, the man took her cell phone out of her hands. Shortly after, the man jumped inside her car and sped off.

A Memphis Zoo spokeswoman said the security director is working with Memphis Police to talk about ways to expand security protocols.

Right now, the park has security but they’re taking extra steps to increase security even before zoo hours so their staff can feel safe.
