NFL player donates money to help families affected by COVID-19

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. — An NFL player and his wife donated an undisclosed amount of money to their hometowns to help families impacted by COVID-19.

Ron Leary and his wife donated to West Memphis, his wife’s hometown.

Their contribution is estimated to impact 100,000 families between two cities.

The Good Neighbor Love Center in West Memphis already had hundreds of boxes that were donated from the Mid-South Food Bank but that generous donation means they are going to be able to feed even more families.

The center has seen a high demand from people in need of food supplies during the coronavirus outbreak.

Like many people, she was shocked to learn that an offensive lineman with the Denver Broncos, donated money to serve 50,000 families in West Memphis.

“If you have individuals who are willing to step up who are in that financial place to do so I would definitely urge and encourage them to do so because there’s a lot of families in the community that can definitely benefit from their generosity,” said Boney who was picking up supplies for a family in need.

“I was surprised and grateful. Thankful, everything else because that gave us a leeway to provide food to the community as needed,” said Jacqueline Cannon, director of Good Neighbor Love Center.

Cannon said the donation will allow the office to triple the number of people it serves.

The director of community outreach for the city said normally they serve about 100 people a month.

Now they’re looking for a company that they can buy food from in bulk.

“We’re just forever grateful that they were able to give a substantial amount because we haven’t seen a donation like that before,” said Tawana Bailey, Director of Community Outreach for the city of West Memphis.

If you would like to pick up some of the supplies, you can do that at the Good Neighbor Love Center between 10:00-2:00 in West Memphis.
