DESOTO COUNTY, Miss. — Thursday, August 6 will be the first day of school for students in DeSoto County.
Members of the Desoto County School District board held a meeting Thursday to discuss the 2020-2021 school year.
After the meeting, a letter was sent to parents.
That letter reads in part:
At today’s school board meeting, the following information was approved by the school board:
- Thursday, August 6th will be the first day of school for students for the 2020-2021 school year.
- Wednesday, August 5th is now a staff development day instead of the first day of school.
- An additional student day will be added to the calendar. This date will be November 3rd, January 4th, or February 12th. All of those dates are currently scheduled as staff development days.
- The finalized 2020-2021 school calendar will be sent to parents in July. The only adjustment will be the additional student day on November 3rd, January 4th, or February 12th.
The Desoto County School System is still working on plans for reopening schools in the fall. Those plans could change and come in multiple forms.
The district’s plan includes things like social distancing guidelines and hiring more nurses.
