Suspect arrested in officer-involved shooting booked into Arkansas jail, officials say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — UPDATE 5/26/2021 10:09 a.m.

A representative from the FBI Memphis field office, Joel Siskovic, told FOX13 the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Tennessee is working to determine in which jurisdiction Cody Dimmitt’s initial court appearance will be held.

Officials with the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Department released a mug shot for Cody DImmitt, 28.

DImmitt is currently booked into the Crittenden County Jail.

UPDATE: 8:40 p.m.

Arkansas State Police also confirmed Cody DImmitt, 28, was taken into custody after a six-hour search in Palestine.

After Dimmitt fled Memphis, he was spotted in the stolen police car by an Arkansas State Trooper along I-40 near Forrest City.

Dimmitt tried to escape troopers and ran from the car.

Officers found Dimmitt around 7:30 p.m. near the spot where he abandoned the car.

UPDATE: 7:35 p.m.

Officials confirm that the man who shot a Southaven police officer is in custody.

According to the St. Francis County Sheriff’s Department, Cody Dimmett was arrested behind that home they thought he was barricaded in.

Officials say Dimmitt was never actually barricaded in the home. He was arrested in a wooded area behind the home.

He was taken into custody without further incident.

UPDATE: 6:50 p.m.

FOX13 has learned the identity of the suspect who they originally believed was barricaded in an Arkansas home as a man wanted in Georgia.

Cobb PD sent a statement to FOX13 confirming the suspect as Cody Dimmitt.

Dimmitt is wanted following a shooting that happened Saturday night in Marietta, according to our sister station in Atlanta.

Cobb PD says officers found a man at Dimmitt’s neighbor’s house with a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

Police believe he tried to get into his neighbor’s party and shot at the house after he was turned away.

FOX13 has confirmed that Dimmitt’s girlfriend and their young child are safe with law enforcement in Memphis, TN.

FOX13 also learned that the Southaven police officer who was shot earlier today has been released from the hospital.


Multiple police agencies from Memphis and DeSoto County are on the scene after police say a Southaven police officer was shot in South Memphis Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened in the area of Mallory Avenue and Riverport Road just before 1 p.m., according to police.

According to DeSoto County Sheriff Bill Rasco, Officer Roy Hurst was shot in the left forearm, taken to Regional One Hospital, and is in non-critical condition.

FOX13 was the only station at Regional One Hospital when Hurst was brought in by ambulance.

Police say that the suspect then stole the officer’s unmarked cruiser and is still on the run.

Police in St. Francis County, Arkansas confirmed that they believe the suspect is in the area of Palestine. They say the suspect bailed from the stolen cruiser and is somewhere in the woods nearby.

They have set up a perimeter and are searching the area. They also have several police K9 dogs deployed in the areas as well.
