One arrested after fatal altercation in Orange Mound, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police have arrested a man in connection with the deadly stabbing in Orange Mound.

Kevin Boyd has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault, court records show.

Officers responded to Regional One just before 2 a.m. Saturday to a wounding call.

One person was brought by a private car and pronounced dead, police said.

The victim, Calvin Jones, was identified as the person stabbed by the suspect in the 1200 block of Haynes Street, police said.

Doctors at the hospital told police there was also another victim who was stabbed three times, an affidavit said.

Jones’ girlfriend told police that Jones and Boyd got into an argument over Boyd throwing a bottle into a yard.

The alleged suspect began to approach Jones and the other victim with a metal pipe, then hitting both Jones and the other victim, records show.

The victim told police at one point Boyd got something out of his pocket and stabbed them.

Boyd was later arrested and told police he did hit the victims with a metal pipe but denied tabbing anyone, the affidavit said.

The West Tennessee Regional Forensic Center ruled Jones’ death a homicide.
