Driver killed after car crashes into house, MPD says

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One person is dead after a car crashed into a house overnight in Mitchell Heights, Memphis police say.

The crash happened in the 1100 block of National Street just after 2 a.m.

MPD confirmed the driver of the car was rushed to Regional One but did not survive.

No other injuries were reported.

Police said speeding was a factor in the fatal crash.

A witness told FOX13, “This is something like you see on TV. You don’t see anything like this in real life.”

The car landed in the living room of the home after going airborne.

A woman who lives in the home didn’t want to show her face or give her name, but said 15 minutes before the horrific crash her husband got up from a couch in the damaged area to go to bed.

Moments after he was in bed the couple heard a “boom” and smelled and saw smoke circulating through the home.

Police said the car involved was a black Infiniti.

The driver was identified as Michel Fleming.

People in the neighborhood said speeding is a big issue in the area that needs to be tackled.

“They are always speeding up and down the street, and not even in just this area. It happens all through Memphis, a witness said.
