15-year-old taken to LeBonheur after shooting in South Memphis, officials say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 15-year-old boy was taken to LeBonheur after an overnight shooting in a South Memphis neighborhood.

Memphis Fire officials confirmed a call came in just before 2 a.m. about a shooting in the 1500 block of Castalia.

The teen was taken to the hospital in critical condition; he was later in non-critical condition, officials confirmed.

People in the neighborhood told FOX13 they were on edge after the shooting.

“I was obviously disappointed and heartbroken to hear something like that happen,” said Yana Person.

Person works at a creative arts summer camp across the street from where the teen was shot.

“I’m a little disappointed when you feel like you’re doing so much work in the community,” she said.

Memphis Police said the victim told them he was shot while walking down the sidewalk.

Sources with MPD said they are still working to figure out a motive.

No suspect information is available at this time.
