Hit-and-run accident leads to home explosion, fire, polie say; family speaks only with FOX13

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Some residents in Parkway Village were evacuated Tuesday night after a car hit a house.

According to Memphis Fire Department, around 7:50 p.m. a car hit the home. When fire crews arrived to the scene, they found the car inside the house.

MFD said the driver stuck a gas line and caused an explosion.

The accident happened near Perkins and Chuck.

Memphis police said the explosion was the result of a hit-and-run accident.

The driver of the car that hit the home was cited for multiple driving violations.

Police are looking for a tan or gold four-door sedan that likely has damage.

The homeowner and the driver were able to leave the area before the explosion.

MLGW crews began digging to cut off the gas main in the area.

MFD confirmed 6 to 8 homes were evacuated because of the damage.

MFD is monitoring the area to see when residents will be able to return to their home.

No injuries were reported.

Red Cross came to the scene to provide assistance.
