MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis mayor and the Shelby County District Attorney announced Tuesday Peppertree Apartments will no longer be allowed to take new tenants and current residents can not resign once their lease has expired.
The complex was served a public nuisance injunction after 1,600 calls in a year and half, according to Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland. This also includes multiple murders and aggravated assaults.

The next court date is on Nov. 29 where the owners must tell the court with the injunction should not be permanent.

Residents will not be forced to immediately move out, but they will not be able to resign and no new tenants will be allowed.
The complex is located in the Whitehaven neighborhood on the 4200 block of Graceland Drive.

This comes even after the owners were ordered to improve safety for the tenants.
Mayor Strickland said the city will be working with tenants to make sure that they are able to find affordable housing.
