TENNESSEE — Phase One of the I-40 bridge is complete, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
Kiewit Infrastructure Group worked 24-hour shifts to install the fabricated steel plates on each side of the fractured member to secure the bridge for permanent repairs, a release said.
Workers will prepare for phase two, which includes cleaning up the worksite and extending the platform.
The phase two design plans that consist of removing and replacing the damaged piece, are being finalized.
Both phases will need to be completed before traffic can re-open on the bridge, officials said.
