POLICE: 16-year-old arrested and charged after hitting and killing a person with a car

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police are investigating after one person was hit by a car.

Officers responded about 6 a.m. Saturday to a crash involving a person being hit by a car at the intersection of Winchester Rd. and Goodlett.

Walter Gomez, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A 16-year-old driver was located and arrested at Emerald and Shirlington, according to police.

He has been charged with no driver’s license, financial responsibility and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, police said.

The passenger Lidora Penaloza, 56, was also charged with Leaving the Scene of Accident Resulting in Death and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.

While on the scene, a grey Ford Focus hit another person and an MPD cruiser.

The person refused medical treatment and two officers were taken to the hospital in non-critical condition, according to police.

The driver of the Ford Focus is being questioned, police said.
