POLICE: Body found at local church suspected as “possibly weather-related” death

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police looking into a body found dead after a “possibly weather-related” death.

FOX13 received reports Saturday that a homeless person being discovered deceased in the vicinity of the First Congregational Church at 1000 Cooper St.

According to a Memphis Police spokesperson, a body was found Saturday morning at or near the First Congregational Church at 1000 Cooper St. They are investigating as “possibly weather-related.”

Two others have been found and are being investigated the same, police said

All are pending results from the medical examiner’s office, the spokesperson said.

The First Congregational Church released a statement from Rev. Cheryl Cornish: 

“Our hearts are heavy as we learn that a neighbor, a man named James, has died of exposure to the cold.  James lived close to the church, and we grieve with his family and friends.  This only strengthens our resolve to continue every effort to provide support for neighbors and others in need during this difficult season through our Food Justice ministry.  Our prayers are with all who struggle and we continue our efforts to make our city safe for all.”
