MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis police are investigating after a person was shot and killed inside a Dollar Tree on Summer Avenue Thursday.
It happened in the 5100 block of Summer Ave. near the interstate.
According to police, one adult victim was located and pronounced dead at the scene just after 1 p.m.
Memphis police told FOX13 the adult victim was shot inside the store and it appears the person who was shot was the intended victim. They said it was not a random act of violence.
Bennett Crow just happened to be across the street helping with the opening of a business when the shooting happened. Crow said he didn’t even realize there was a shooting.
“I was here putting up the balloon for the grand opening and heard a police car come,” Crow said. “I didn’t hear any shots or anything.”
According to MPD, there is no information on the killer or killers or even a motive.
Crow told FOX13 he didn’t even hear any yelling or see anyone coming out of the store.
“I heard the police car come and then I heard the fire truck come,” he said. “Then the ambulance came and then the ambulance left with no lights or siren on kind of slow.”
Investigators were in the shopping plaza throughout the evening speaking with possible witnesses and looking for surveillance video. The store remained blocked off until a little before 7 p.m.
Crow, a Texas native, said he was in town just for the day. Having been working outside not far from this shooting, Crow said this should serve as a reminder to be aware of your surroundings.
“If you’re gonna work in the street you need a good reason,” he said. “If you don’t have that hey, do something else.”
No arrests have been made so far and no other injuries were reported on the scene.
