Man shoots Dollar General employee in face, steals Halloween candy, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police arrested a man after he allegedly robbed a local Dollar General store and shot an employee in the face.

The robbery happened Oct. 3 at the Dollar General in the 4700 block of S. Third Street.

According to an affidavit, a man entered the store armed with a handgun wrapped in a plastic bag.

He demanded money from the cash register while pointing the gun at an employee.

According to the affidavit, he shot the employee in the face before fleeing on foot.

He took Halloween candy with him in a yellow Dollar General bag, records show.

Police who reviewed surveillance video from the store recognized the suspect as Malik Motley, 22.

Police went to his home, which is approximately one mile away from the store, according to the affidavit.

Police saw Motley walking out of the home when they arrived, but he ran away.

A neighbor said he saw Motley walking toward the Dollar General about 15 minutes before police arrived.

Police found a handgun, Halloween candy and a yellow Dollar General bag in Motley’s home, records show.

Motley is charged with Especially Aggravated Robbery and Attempted First-Degree Murder.
