Police searching for suspect who ransacked Parkway Village church

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A place of worship, violated, broken into, and ransacked.

Memphis police are looking for the man caught on camera inside Fresh Start Anointed Ministries off South Mendenhall Road in Parkway Village.

The security company owner who shared the video with FOX13 said the inside of the church is heavily damaged and might cost thousands of dollars to fix.

Whoever the guy is, he went to great lengths to get inside. Memphis police say he broke a hole into a vacant suite next door. Once inside, police say he did a lot of damage, stole a book of checks, and then ran off.

“You have to be very, very low to do that because there is no money in the church,” Charles Wright told FOX13. “There is nothing in the church. Why would you break in the church?”

Wright owns a security company and shared the surveillance video with MPD.

He said the inside of the church is completely ransacked.

“You probably did a couple of thousand dollars worth of damage, and you didn’t get anything, and the church has to replace that, and they might not have the money to replace that,” said Wright.

Since the July 7 burglary, Wright says that his security team has made extra rounds in the shopping center.

Memphis police are also investigating. They say the thief is an 18-to 30-year-old man who was wearing a ball cap and light-colored clothing.

Wright hopes he’s caught soon.

“It’s a shame, but I wouldn’t advise him to come back,” Wright said. “The person that did that, they should make him replace that. Yeah, they should make him do that.”

Anyone with information about this incident should call Crime Stoppers at 528-CASH.
