MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A local security officer is behind bars after allegedly shooting and killing a man at Walgreens.
Memphis Police were called to the 1300 block of Poplar Avenue to the Walgreens for a shooting Sunday night at about 9:45 p.m.
The alleged suspect, Devin Mitchell, a security guard at Walgreens said that he told the victim to leave the store, an affidavit said.
Mitchell told police that the victim, later identified as Michael Birdsong, was not going anywhere and then put his hands in his pants.
The suspect then pulled out a handgun and shot Birdsong in the face, records show.
Mitchell said he never saw a gun on the victim, the affidavit said.
Birdsong was taken to Regional One and was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.
Mitchell was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, court records show.
He is due in court on March 1 and his bond was set at $250,000.
